Scrapping Servant

A Joyful way to Serve my Savior

Scrappin’ Sunday May 4, 2008

I am sooo sooo tired after my first overnighter crop!  I left on Friday and came back this morning before church.  We stayed up till about midnight the first night and probably two last night (I barely remember I’m so tired)!  PS. that is the answer to this week’s Bonus Question.  (Did you go anywhere or make anything special yesterday for National Scrapbooking Day? - if you wanna see some of the action check my recent posts :o)

I took a nap today so I am still up now, but I will have to scan my TA-DA layouts for you tomorrow :o)  I only got two done, but I really like them.  I added the sketches as a part of the bonus question below.

And a Bonus Question I missed from February 3rd: Do you sketch your ideas or do you just put things together as you go?  I totally used to put things together as I go, and I still will sometimes depending on the situation, but my time is spent best at crops when I have a plan!  So I will pick my pictures (as shared last Sunday) then I will make a sketch (pictured above with the adjoining layouts), re-size them accordingly and send them to the printers like THIS.

So when I get to the crop all I have to do is cut the white off my photos, pick my paper and embellishments and start laying it all out!  Much more fun and it uses less brain cells when I am cropping with my friends :o)

Here is my rolling list of TO-DOs…  :o)

  1. Yes - I STILL have to put together my Rusty Pickle make-n-take
  2. meet with a new client for her wedding album
  3. plan a display album for a friend
  4. and a simple mother’s day album for my mom

TA-DA… Yes I got some of my to-dos done from last week - are you proud?

Here are my favorite photos of JJ’s 2nd year…

And here are my favorite’s of B.Boy’s 1st year…

If you want to see the photos chosen for my daughter’s 1st year CLICK HERE, and if you want to see the layouts that became of them CLICK HERE.

And here is my running TO-DO list that I will update through the week until next week!  (Next week will be exciting for Scrappin’ Sunday because it is National Scrapbook Day next weekend!!! - and I am going to my sister’s house for my first overnight crop!!!)

  1. put together my Rusty Pickle make-n-take for National SB Day
  2. finish an engagement invitation for a family member
  3. plan layouts with JJ & B.Boy’s pics and get the photos printed
  4. meet with a new client for her wedding album
  5. plan a display album for a friend
  6. and a simple mother’s day album for my mom

I’ve decided to keep a rolling list from now on of things I would like to get done scrap-wise to keep myself accountable.  And what I mean by rolling list a lot of it will probably ”roll” on for a couple weeks until it gets crossed off :o)

  •  Now onto this week’s Bonus Question: Do you buy patterned paper just because you like it, or because you have something specific in mind?
    • I almost always have something specific in mind!  Like this week I will go out and use my free $20 at my local scrapbook store knowing all of the layouts I have planned for this weekend.  I will need girlie paper, boy paper, and baby paper, I will also have specific colors and patterns in mind knowing the photos.
    • Of coarse there are always those times that I know I will use cute paper like at THIS LINK - pages 13, 26-29, 41, 43 - though I don’t buy those right away unless they stay on my “like” list for a while.
  • And here’s a Bonus Question I missed from week 6: Do you ever find yourself in a position where your paper crafts aren’t fun at the moment, but you feel obligated to finish them?
    • YES!  OH YES - TOTALLY!  This was happening to me just last weekend before my monthly crop.  I was even having the desire to give up completely and donate all my product away!  Sometimes it just feels like a waste of time or money, but I often just take this as a lie from the enemy because I KNOW God uses my scrapbooking to bless others and to grow me, I also get great fellowship when I craft with my Christian friends!  So, yes I press-on and am always blessed in the end :o)

Oh dear, here I am again sharing that I (once again) did not get my to-dos done from last week… but I did get one layout done just yesterday because I went to a crop and had some great fellowship!!  (Thank you Joshie for letting me sleep in then kicking me out to crop!  I love you!)

Here it is my dears… TA-DA…

And my TO-DO… lets look through ALL the ones I have not completed and finish them huh?! UPDATED and added to…

  1. put together my Rusty Pickle make-n-take for National SB Day
  2. get orders ready for CTMHRoger’s &  Stampendous
  3. pick photos to print for JJ’s 2 layouts of her second year
  4. and more photos for B.Boy’s 2 layouts of his first year
  5. and (while I’m at it) more photos of GG’s birth
  6. take and purchase professional photos
  7. put a slit in one of my paint cans to make it a “donation” can
  8. finish an engagement invitation for a family member

(I am getting ready to Scrapbook at my sister’s house over night in two weeks :o)  Ps. Give her a visit and a comment - she’s newer to blogging.

Bonus Question: Where is your favorite place to get craft supplies?  That’s kind of a tough one for me… I guess I like to get them from anywhere because if I like something - I like it- period… it does not matter where it’s from.

And here’s a Bonus Question I missed from week 5: Where do you do your crafts?  In my craft room!  On the wonderful table my handsome husband and his daddy made for me.  :o)

Hey ladies joining me from the Sunday Scrappin’ Hub, nice to see you here.

Well my TA-DAs, hum?  I got some of my to-do’s done from last week…

  • I cleaned up my scrap space AGAIN (pics above)… I feel like I just did this!
  • I entered one of my orders for National Scrapbook Day (which I am totally excited about because from the product I ordered they decided to match that amount in promotional products for giveaways!)
  • I also downloaded some new fonts from Allie Hoopes to play with…
  • and a made a rolling “email me button” with my families pics for my blog (featuring a couple of those fonts).
    • Do you think a custom button like that would be a good giveaway for the upcoming party?

My TO-DO for this week will be… to put together my Rusty Pickle tutorial for the Scrapbooking Blog Party.  I think that’ll be it since I have B.Boy’s birthday party coming up next weekend.

Now for this week’s Bonus Question: What kind of projects do you do the most often?  Lately I have had a lot of altered projects, if you check my Scrappin’ Sunday page you will see that.

And Here’s a Bonus Question I missed from week 4:  Share a favorite tip or technique that you’ve learned recently…  Well I shared a tutorial for my most favorite technique last week… distressing.  Check it out and enjoy.

Happy Scrapping!

Hey!  I am actually joining this Sunday!  I didn’t really get a lot done to share, and I didn’t get my to-dos done from 3 weeks ago, but with all that I am tackling lately I am still happy.

My TA-DAs are a small altered pail for my friend’s baby shower, and a slightly altered (already cute to start with) prayer journal.

The pics of my paint can are a little different this time because I actually forgot to take them, so my friend took them for me, what do ya think?  F.Y.I.  If you like the distressed look on the papers I will be sharing a step by step tutorial sometime this week :o)

This is the notebook or prayer journal my friend and Bible Study leader gave me for our new Beth Moore Study Breaking Free.  She bought such a cute one too start with that I couldn’t resist finding more ribbon (that I already own) and tying it to the spiral binding!

PS.  This notebook is made by u:create and was designed by Jacqueline Savage McFee!

Looksie here….

My TO-DOs would be to clean up my scrap space and enter orders with S.E.I.Close to My HeartRogers and Stampendous for National SB Day… losts of work for me at home with my 3 little ones!

Which brings me to This week’s Bonus Question: What inspires you to sit down and craft?  My answer would have to be the fact that I am usually doing it for someone else.  (Hence the Scrapping Servant :o)  I own my own Business Scrapping for others and like to make gifts on the side for friends and family.  I especially like to think that my scrapbooks are made knowing that my children will cherish them someday.

REMEMBER:  A part of my Scrapping Servant-hood this week will be to share a tutorial on distressing paper in 4 different ways!  Don’t miss it.

Late post for Sunday Scrappin’ #17 March 10, 2008

Filed under: Scrappin' Sunday — Carolyn @ 8:09 am

If you want to join Sunday Scrappin’ click HERE.

TA-DA… I finished my to-do from last week (except for the tags, I decided not to make them).  The picture I’m sharing is of the paint cans that were purchased at the Ladies Retreat I recently went to.  The right was a favorite because of all the techniques I used, and the left one was a favorite because of the paper and the colors, it was also I new design with the small torn paper on the top.  There is also another can’s picture in THIS post.

TO-DO… Let’s see… scrap wise I would like to make a couple cards, that’s a good goal… I won’t push for more.

This week’s Bonus Question: What’s on your craft supply wishlist right now?  Lots of jewels and some flowers because I just had another girl!  A Tim Holtz Design Ruler because I don’t want to use my wooden one anymore, and I like the holes for poking.  A Round Monogram Stamper from JustRite Stampers and the small letter set to go with it… because it is just plain cool (I saw it’s use in a magazine once).

Scrappin’ Sunday #16 March 3, 2008

Filed under: Scrappin' Sunday — Carolyn @ 12:59 am

This is the post I meant to write last night when I went crazy instead.  :o)  On Saturday I went to a crop at my old church, where we had about 20 ladies, that’s our biggest turn-out since National Scrapbook Day last year!  It was nice to see all the ladies and get something done without my kiddos needing me (thanks again Joshie).  Now on to sharing…

TA-DA… I have to make 5 altered paint cans for centerpieces for the Ladies Retreat I am going to this weekend… I got all the paper cut and distressed ready to glue, and I actual got 3 of the cans glued as well!  I loved work with the paper on the top left, I crumpled it, inked it, sanded it, and tore it.  :o)

TO-DO… know I just have to glue the other two cans, embellish them all, print the theme scripture for the retreat to go on them, and go to the store to get ribbon to tie on all the handles… I should also make some tags to hang on the opposite side of the key like I always do.

This week’s Bonus Question: Do you usually do your crafts alone or with friends? Which do you prefer?  I usually do my crafts with someone in the room, whither it’s with my husband gaming, or with my sister-in-law, or a bunch of ladies at a crop… I prefer not to scrap alone, unless it is for “me time” without the kiddos.

Another Bonus Question I missed from week 2:  What is your favorite scrappy craft– scrapbooking, stamping, card making, or something else?  I was just telling the ladies at the crop on Saturday that I actually favor altered projects more than I do traditional scrapbooking.  They were all interested since I was altering paint cans while they all did layouts.  I love altered art because I don’t second guess myself as far as design goes, I’m free, and I can more happily own the mistakes :o)

Happy Scrapping Everybody, see you again next week for Sunday Scrappin’.

Scrappin’ Sunday #9 January 13, 2008

Filed under: Scrappin' Sunday — Carolyn @ 5:20 pm

Take a looksie here to see what I am up to…

TA-DA… First of all, I finished my To-Do’s from two weeks ago… I cleared off my scrapbook desk of unopened Christmas toys (if you look in the Preggo Pic below there is proof), and I picked pictures for my Son’s next layouts…

But then I took it a step further and went to the Crop at my old church on Saturday in turn getting 4 whole layouts done with those photos!!!  Which is totally great for me… That was even part of my 2008 Craft Goal :o)

Here are the completed layouts.  All but the Scrumdiddleumptious one were layout designs followed from Close to My Heart’s new Imagine Book.  I think following those sketches really helps me get out of “road-blocks” I get into it and get it done.

4 Layouts!!!

TO-DO… For this week, I think I would like to organize and chose photos for the two layouts of my daughter being 2 years old. The explanation for only two layouts is in THIS POST from last year.

I would also like to get more photos for my son’s album printed, but we will see about that one… because that requires me to sketch the layouts to know what size and the photos should but and it requires me resizing them which is explained in THIS POST from last year :o).

Added Thoughts… Lots of computer work, but totally worth it when I am out at crops trying to have fun with my girl-friends…. everything is all nice and planned out… pictures pre-sized, sketches drawn (or chosen from Imagine) and paper picked :o)

Last Saturday I actually went over to my local scrapbook store and purchased 6 sheets of patterned paper (just enough for the layouts I was making that day).  I thought it was great and am thinking that is the way to do it from now on… I had nice product to work with yet spent less money because I didn’t buy everything I liked.  Which brings me to….

Last week’s Bonus Question: Do you prefer to stick with only big name-brand supplies or do you usually buy less expensive supplies?… I usually just buy whatever I like, but that is also usually big name-brand stuff.  I don’t usually buy it unless it is needed for exactly what I am working on though. I noticed having too much paper or embellishments on hand is wasteful, it just sits, gets old and never gets used.  So it’s quality not quantity with me :o)

This week’s Bonus Question: If you could only do one kind of paper crafts for the rest of your life, which craft would you pick?… I will definitely be scrapbooking for the rest of my life.  It’s a good outlet for me especially since I do it with others once a month as time away from the kiddos.

Sorry for all the yammering, but I really like this whole Scrappin’ Sunday thing… helping me plan goals along with sharing accomplishments… it’s GREAT!

Scrappin’ Sunday December 30, 2007

Take a looksie here to see what I am up to…

TA-DA… I think this will be a great day to reflect on all that has happened with my scrapping in 2007. Let’s see… I got my MacBook Pro in turn reorganizing my digital photos, redesigning my website and starting my blog.

I completed four client albums. I altered four new items and made tutorials for three of them.  I signed-up as a Close to My Heart consultant.  I hosted my own blog party to celebrate National Scrapbook Day online, and hosted a crop at my church for the third running year.  I altered my first wedding reception centerpieces.  I purged many supplies and inventory with a swap, a giveaway and a sale.  And I finished about 65 layouts total for the entire year. Wow!  That was a lot to look back and reflect on.

TO-DO… I think my only plan this week scrapbooking wise would be to clear off my scrapping area of not-yet-opened toys of my children’s from Christmas, and maybe to pick some pictures to print for my son’s next layouts.

My craft-related goals for 2008… well, they would have to be…

  • to finish my sons album to one year old (10 3 more layouts),
  • to complete 2 layouts 1 layout for my daughter’s second year,
  • to get at least a couple family album layouts done,
  • to scrap a little for my newborn,
  • to alter a recipe box just for me,
  • to get a least one client album done,
  • to finish my daughter’s crocheted blanket,
  • to complete more altered item tutorials

ALL WITH THREE KIDS!!! LOL!!!

Here’s a layout with a picture of Tree Hunting from two years ago.  I thought I would share it since I shared my Tree Hunting Pics from this year yesterday… I guess that shows how far behind I am :o)  …Fun and easy page… ink distressed strips of Basic Grey Christmas Paper, some cardstock, ribbonmailbox lettersrub-ons and wha-la!

If you are also sharing your Scrapping project today, chime in here
