Friday for Friends

Okay ladies. I know you haven't heard from me in a while... I am still here and very glad some of you still come to visit me, THANK YOU! :o)

I was planning another giveaway for my Friday for Friends carnival and thought "Why not encourage others to do the same thing to show that they are thankful too?" Your giveaway doesn't have to be anything big, just something from your heart... you will see what I am giving further down in this post.

For my GIVEAWAY this time I will chose 2 winners. Each winner will be able to chose $10 in product from the Inventory list on my post from October 18th... Plus you will receive a handmade altered item from Joyous Creations. Please leave a comment on this post to enter. The winner will be chosen Thanksgiving Day. Non-bloggers welcome. God Bless.

If you would still like to purchase items from the Inventory list please e-mail me so I can take them off before they end up as a giveaway :o)

Friday for Friends

My hope is that this will help more than one of you, but I got the idea from Rebecca (The not so desperate housewife) who commented asking how I decide the size of my photos, and if I already know my layout design before I choose sizes. Here is the method to my madness Becca...

I decide on my picture sizing by picking my main "favorite", a family shot, or the best of the bunch to make it a 8x10 or 5x7, sometimes I pick two.

Then the "others" end up being smaller sizes but usually all something similar like 2x2's, 4x3's, or some of both.  The smaller ones give me more choices in photos also because they could be pictures that wouldn't look good huge or "normal' size (4x6) anyway, like a close-up on my daughter's head or a blurry smiley one of my son, you get my drift?

These are the steps I follow that work for me...
1. I pick my photos (usually all digital) unless I know a family member gave me doubles or memorabilia I know would go with them.
2. I pick 1-3 "favorites" to put them in a folder on my computer marked either 5x7 or 8x10 even though I might choose to make them a 5x5, 4x7 or 7x10.
3. Then I go through the rest that I chose in step 1 and kinda randomly pick their sizes knowing how much room I should have left on my 12x12 if I already have one 4x7 down.  And I will put them in a folder marked 4x6 (so I know what size they will get sent to the printers as) but they will be 2x3's, 4x4's and so on.
4. I send them to my online printer, crop them when they get here.
5. Then I do a rough layout on two blank white 12x12's, sometimes I draw a sketch.
6. I pick my paper, my embellishments and so on, and when I put it my whole layout together my pictures will usually shift a little again to make the colors and shapes on the layout more pleasing to the eye... visual triangles, "color throwing" and such.

There is a pretty good video of a method similar to mine over at paperclipping.com that you could check out if you want.... have a GREAT friday!

Giveaway Winner

This is from the giveaway I announced back in July, I thought the longer I left it up the more people would sign-up to win, but now I think I was wrong.
So there were 10 ladies signed up and Miss Laura at My Qoutidian Mysteries won the $30 gift certificate for Joyous Creations!

Congratulations Laura!

Friday for Friends

Hello Everybody I have been so blessed by blogging with you all that I want to have a little giveaway as a thank you.

It will be a $30 gift certificate for Joyous Creations and all you have to do is comment on this blog post to enter. You can even spread the word for others to comment if you think they would like to win as well.

The winner will be announced on any Friday of my choice :o)

I also wanted to let you all know that you will not see me around as often since we will be disconnecting the internet here at my home. But I will be able to get on every once in a while at friends houses, or at crops, or my friend's scrapbook studio, so I will still be "here".

Love you all and God bless!

Friday: For Friends

On Fridays I am going to think of something I can do for someone else, and share it with everyone here. Today I was totally excited to get my comment links actually working like everyone else's do. And not too long after they gotta workin' I received a message from Karla saying that she loved the idea of tearing photos... well, this friday is for her........

Karla, I wanted to share another layout with you to encourage you in the tearing of your photos. I know it is a scary thing, but only at first, after you do it you will realize it is a great and easy time saver.

Here I tore the edges then inked them black for more of a timeless distressed look to go with the wrought iron in the photos.

Suggestions: Practice both tearing and inking on a "junk" photo first to get the feel of the photo paper opposed to regular paper. If you are inking your photos edges, be sure to leave time to let them dry so the ink does not get all over the place. And if you have never torn before follow my lead... start at the top right corner (top left I think if you are left handed) and work your way down slowly, always tearing towards yourself. Have fun. I gotta run!
